The assailant entered the bedroom of Khan’s four-year-old son, Jeh, and demanded ₹1 crore. When Eliyama Philip, a 56-year-old nurse employed at the residence, resisted, she sustained injuries to her wrists and hand.
The commotion alerted the household, prompting Khan and his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, to intervene. In the ensuing struggle, Saif Ali Khan suffered multiple stab wounds, including cuts on his neck, shoulder, back, and wrist. Another staff member, Geeta, was also injured while attempting to assist.
The intruder, described as a man in his late 30s with a slim build and dark complexion, fled the scene before additional staff arrived. Bandra police have launched an investigation, treating the incident as a case of armed robbery and assault. The injured individuals, including Saif Ali Khan, are receiving medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
According to Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer at Lilavati Hospital, Khan sustained six injuries: two severe, two intermediate, and two abrasions. A 2.5-inch piece of knife was removed from his spine during surgery. Dr. Nitin Dange, a neurosurgeon at the hospital, noted that Khan had a major injury to his thoracic spine due to the knife lodged there, and additional deep wounds on his left hand and right side of the neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team.
The police have retrieved CCTV footage showing the intruder on the sixth floor of the building, indicating that he may have entered earlier in the night without forcing entry. Ten teams have been formed to investigate the offense, and the house-help who raised the initial alarm suffered a minor knife injury during the scuffle. Authorities are interrogating her to gather more details about the accused.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of high-profile individuals in Mumbai. Public figures, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, have expressed their concern and wished Khan a speedy recovery. The police are actively investigating the case to apprehend the assailant and ensure justice is served.
